It may be your apartment, but living in small spaces with pets has its challenges…
Preparing your home for your pet is important for their sense of well being.
Moving is incredibly stressful for pets and adjusting to their new surroundings can be problematic. If you are moving or have just moved into a new apartment you have undoubtedly experienced this yourself. Maintain as much consistency as possible when setting up your pets bowls; crates, etc. Keep them in the same rooms they were located in before the move. Make sure their crates are full of their favorite toys, chews etc! This will soothe and relax them. Dogs will benefit from lengthy walks around your neighborhood that will help them to acclimate to their new surroundings.
Before you leave your apartment, quickly scan the floor and lower areas like beds and sofas for small items that could choke your pets if ingested. Left over chocolates from the night before can be fatal! Leave your radio on; dogs especially are comforted by soft music.
If at all possible, give your dog a lunch break! Hire a dog walker or friend to visit your dog at lunch. The interaction and opportunity to burn off some energy will keep them happy until you arrive home from work! Lastly, dogs love long lasting chew toys, fill a Kong with peanut butter and they might be so occupied digging out the food they may not even notice you leaving!
